Gloria Neomia Darst (Retherford), 89, of Akron, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024. She was born in Ravenna on June 22, 1935, and was raised on a farm, where she spent her childhood having many adventures with her beloved siblings, Beverly and Leonard. Their close bond remained a source of strength and joy throughout her life.
A devoted mother, Gloria poured her love and energy into raising her two children, Richard and Kimberly. She was a mother and friend to many, sharing life's joys and challenges with an unwavering sense of care and kindness. Gloria had a special ability to bring together both sides of her family, with many of those relatives becoming lifelong friends.
In addition to her role as a mother, Gloria was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite role in life was "Grandma," and she adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and devotion to her family will continue to be cherished for generations.
Gloria retired from Goodyear, where she was proud to be a dedicated member of the workforce. She took great pride in her career and all she accomplished at the company. Even after retirement, Gloria continued to stay active, sharing her wisdom and love with everyone around her.
She is survived by her son, Richard Darst (Roger), her daughter, Kimberly McCabe (Michael), her grandchildren, Kevin Darst (Jennifer), Zachary Darst (Courtney), and Meghan Barnes (Joshua), and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Jack, Henry, and Wyatt. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Leona (Bickett) Retherford; her father, Ernest Retherford; her sister, Beverly Retherford Sullivan; her brother, Leonard Retherford; and her ex-husband, Richard Darst.
A memorial service to celebrate Gloria's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her legacy and share stories of the love and joy she brought to all who knew her.
Gloria's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her love will continue to inspire those who remain behind.
