Gloria E. Moneypenny, 89, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 . Born in Lubbock, TX to Leonard and Violet Shell, she resided in the Akron, OH area all of her adult life. She retired after 30+ years of service from Firestone Bank/BankOne/Chase Bank where she started as a proof operator and retired as a Vice President of Corporate Services. Gloria was an avid reader. It was not unusual for her to have a book going upstairs, a book downstairs, and one by her side in the family room. She was also a diehard Browns & Buckeye fan and loved talking smack with her sons, sons-in law and grandsons. In the summer she could be found outside tending to her gardens. She even created a "secret garden" that she shared with her granddaughters. She loved sunshine and being at the beach whenever possible. Most of all she loved her family! She was the kind of mom that would help her kids out no matter what!
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Thomas; sons, Terry, Joe; son-in-law, David Terry; grandson, Zachary. She will be sadly missed by her children, Garry (Sandy) Moneypenny, Tomala "Tommie" Moneypenny, Lisa (Scott) Ritenauer, Amy Moneypenny; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Moneypenny , Nicholas Moneypenny, Jake Parsons, Alex Moneypenny, Macie Moneypenny, Leanne(Josh) Karadin, Michelle (Jim) Stillwagon, Joe (Elizabeth) Terry and Tylee Moneypenny, great grandchildren, JJ, Brady, Landen, Khloe, Kaiya, Kallie, Luke, Logan, Harlow, Davie, and Charlie. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Pebble Creek for the loving care & friendships they provided; especially her football buddies!
Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. A brief memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family plans a celebration of life/picnic in the summertime per Gloria's wishes.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Gloria's name to The Ronald McDonald House or the charity of your choice.
