With clear vision and renewed strength, Gordon "Andy" Anderson stepped from this life to the next on Friday, October 7, 2011. He was surrounded by his family, who truly loved and respected him. They include devoted wife of 65 years, Martha; daughters and "sons", Peggy and Denny Hoskins, Mary and Bob Hoch and Denise and Tom Leffler; grandchildren, Nanci Miller (Rob), Jeanne Stopak (Jeff), Allison Hart (Mike), Andy Hoch, Rob Hoch, Annie Chapman (Ryan), Mark Leffler (Julianne), Dan Leffler (Morgan Finch); great-grandchildren, Tommy, Whit, Cameron, Kevin, Nate, Ben and Leah (due in December); sister-in-law, Delores Anderson. Andy was pre-deceased by beloved parents, Carl and Gladys Anderson; and brothers Carl and Dick. Andy was a lifelong resident of the Akron and Mogadore areas. He was a World War II veteran. He spent his entire career as a salesman for Horning Lumber and Schumacher Lumber Company. He was a charter member of St. Matthew Parish and a long time member of their Holy Name Society. His hobbies included building homes, carpentry and following the activities of his family. He was a regular at sporting events to cheer on his grandchildren. We will always remember him for his easy-going manner, his quick wit and his tender heart. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael Williamson officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore. Calling hours will be Monday, 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd.
