Grosvenor George Hanlin, age 91, of Atwater, Ohio, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 6:30 AM.
He was born on May 15, 1925 in Stow, Ohio, the son of the Jonas and Anna Puttrill Hanlin.
George was a tin worker for Goodyear Tech Center for many years. He began his career on June 29, 1950 and retired on July 1, 1990. Mr. Hanlin enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling. He was a Boy Scout Master for 25 years. He belonged to the Lions Club where they built many things in Randolph, including the Gazebo. He also was instrumental in starting the first Memorial Day Parade. George was also a 32nd degree Mason. He dedicated timelessly to humanitarian services.
Mr. Hanlin was very involved in his churches that he loved, The Chapel of Marlboro, and Randolph Friendship Bible Church.
George was also an honorably discharged US Navy Veteran of WWII and served on the USS Hornet. He went on an honor flight to Washintgon DC 3 years ago and was able to place the wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier.
Survivors include his loving wife, the former Evelyn Marie "Maxine" Arnold, whom he married on August 7, 1945; his children, Lynda Goodrich, Bud (Debbie) Hanlin, Jr., Alan (Kathy) Hanlin, Randy (Janelle) Hanlin, and Billie (Jerry) White; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Other than his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Ted Hanlin.
Memorial visitation and services will be held at the Randolph Friendship Bible Church, 1703 State Route 44, Randolph, Ohio 44265 on Monday January 2, 2017 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. Pastor Bill Johnson will celebrate George's life.
