SPRINGFIELD TWP.--Guy L. "Smitty" Smith, 78, passed away on June 13, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Parkersburg, WV to the late Guy and Bertha (Lawman) Smith. He was owner/operator of Smitty's Gun Shop for 55 years and was a master gunsmith. He also retired from Springfield Twp. Road Department with 35 years of service. Smitty was proud to have served with the 101st Airborne 4th Division, and was a proud 32nd degree Mason. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed camping and loved his Blue Grass music.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Clara Marie; brother, Carl; sisters-in-law, Blondena Smith and Becky Back.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, son, Guy W. (Judy) Smith; grandchildren, Kristin Smith, Stacy Eyre, Kristy Eyre, Mandy Smith; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Glen Earl Smith; brother-in-law, Lonnie Back; sisters-in-law, June Smith, Juanita Campbell; and special friend, Anna Connant.
Calling hours will be Friday, 5-8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
