Guy W. Pearson, 70, an Akron resident formerly of Huntington Beach, CA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2011. Guy was born in Barberton on August 28, 1940. He graduated in 1958 from Garfield High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he first fell in love with California. Throughout his life, Guy was an excellent salesman. In his free time, he loved classic movies, football, playing cards, homecooked meals, and spending time with his family. After spending most of his adult life in California, Guy returned to Akron eight years ago. He suffered a serious stroke which led to multiple illnesses and his courageous fight was admired by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Pearson; father and stepmother, Guy and Ethel Pearson; nephew, Mark Althauser; and brother, Bob Wilkins. He is survived by his sisters, Phyllis (Sonny) Althauser, Joan (Dan) Summers, Linda (Gary) Pickelsimer; brother, Jim (Cathy) Pearson; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Gloria Smoot. The family would like to thank Summa ICU and Essex for all the care given to Guy. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. A graveside service will be held in the chapel at Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bernard Christy officiating.
