Gwendolyn (Goodson) Edwards, 61, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2023. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1961 to William and Willie May Goodson. Gwen met the love of her life and married Charles Edwards Jr. in the summer of 1996, blending two families together forever. Gwen will always be remembered for her caring heart and loving spirit. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and also gave a lot of her time and talents to friends and family alike. In addition to raising her family, Gwen spent many years as an art teacher at King Kennedy Boys and Girls Club in Cleveland. In her free time, she loved family get-togethers and casino trips.
Gwen is now reunited with her beloved husband, Charles Edwards Jr.; father, William Goodson; son, Charles Boyd III; siblings, Daniel Goodson, Ruth Ann King, Elaine Caldwell, Jackie Towns, and Lorna Goodson; and granddaughter, Shaun'Teria Funches.
She leaves to cherish her memory to her mother, Willie May Goodson; children, Shunmekea (Konrad) Herring, Tamika Goodson, Danielle Gaiter, Kesha Goodson, Edwin Goodson, Dewayne (Joy) Edwards, Miranda (Timmy) Goodson, Christopher Goodson, Shawn Edwards, LeAnn (Derek) Moultrie, Charlis Williams, Carlis Williams, and MekeaDanelle Brown; sisters, Gayle Austin, Deborah McGhee, Kathy Goodson, Janice (Lanny) Betha'; grandchildren, Konrad Jr., Ka'Ron, and Kayla Herring; Reggie Pickett Jr., Antwone, and Jordynn Woolfolk; Sha'Kira Funches, Andreia Gaiter; Kei'Shawn and Qua'Darius Goodson; Briajah'na and Ta'Vanne Goodson; Macenzi, Tytus, Cyrus, and Malakai Edwards, Antonio, Larry, and Jayme James; Kaniyaa and Chris Goodson Jr.; Sh'Niya and Ja'Niyla Edwards; Mariah and Ma'Lyek Brown; Serenity King; Le'Rek and De'Ann Moultrie; Char'Lisa Williams; Adonis Williams; Cameron and Charlee Brown, Deiquan Henry, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends, including her close friend, Deborah West.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. homegoing service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. The service will be officiated by St. James Singleton.
