Harlan Eugene Montis
Harlan Eugene, 90, of Akron, passed away February 11, 2014. He was born in Akron on March 14, 1923 to the late Harlan H. and Frieda Montis. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1945. He spent his entire career as a journeyman machinist. Harlan was a devoted member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church, where he volunteered in several positions and sang in the choir. For 22 years, he was a member of the Summit Choral Society. He was a past member of The Amaranth, a lifelong Mason, and a lifetime member of the Army Navy Union USA Garrison 102. In his free time, Harlan could often be found bowling, playing softball, or golfing. He spent many years as a competitive rollerskater and judge.
Harlan was preceded in death by his first wife, Loretha; and daughter-in-law, Carol Montis. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Lois J. Montis; children, Suzanne (Ken) Perkins, John Montis, Jeano (Tony) Bittner, and Dann (Pamela) Schaffer; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and good friends.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, February 16 from 3-6 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Visitation will be Monday from 10-11 followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Ron Shultz officiating at Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E. Market St., Akron 44305. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
