Harold M. Jones, Jr.
Our beloved Dad, Harold M. Jones, Jr., 83, joined our Mom in Heaven on October 12, 2013. "Absent in the body, present in the Lord."
Dad was born November 2, 1929 to Harold and Isabel (Hutchens) Jones in Akron, Ohio. Dad graduated from Ellet High School in 1947, served in the Naval Reserve, and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber until his retirement in 1987. He helped establish the Ellet Amateur Athletic Association which focused on the youth of Ellet. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and an Elder Emeritus of New Horizons Christian Church (E. Market Christian Church).
Dad made many friends and was always there to lend a hand to all. He raised his family in the house he helped build for our Mom, assuring that they always remained in the same community of Ellet.
Dad loved the Lord, Mom, his children, Ohio State Football, a good cigar and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor, a heart for service, and he and Mom were the rock and glue of our family for 63 years.
The family wishes to thank Summa Palliative Care doctors and staff, Dr. Kenneth Berkovitz and staff, Dr. Jose Ventosa and staff, and all the friends and family who rallied with us this past year to enable Dad to remain in the home he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Jones and brother, William Jones.
Survivors include his children, Deborah (Joe) Biondi, Douglas Jones, Diane (Steve) Mitchell; brother, Hoyt Eady; grandchildren, Ginger (Jason) Cook, Andrew (Katie) Hoffman, Daniel Hoffman, Patti (Steve) Agnew, Leah Jones, Rachel (fiance Robert Fisher IV) Jones, Stephanie (Tom) Farmer, Katie Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Casey, Ayla Hoffman, Evie Agnew, and Bobby Fisher; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved cat, Midnight.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dad's life at a service on Tuesday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Bane officiating at New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Rd., Akron 44305.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Horizons Christian Church or the American Heart Association.
