Harold V. "Hud" Shockley, Sr. passed way June 1, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born in Springdale, PA on April 26, 1941 to Harold and Marjorie Shockley.
After graduating from high school, Harold served in the United States Army, where he also played basketball. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier until he retired in 1992.
After retiring, Harold moved to North Carolina where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, making wine and tinkering in his garage. He always had a joke to tell and would say "Now I don't care who you are, that's funny!"
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ron Alcorn; and girlfriend of 30 years, Leta Tucker.
He is survived by his children, Harold (Robin) Shockley of Uniontown, Ohio; Heidi Bing of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Krista (Sean) O'Neill, Kaylee (Jordan) Hardy, Kameron and Kyle Shockley, all of Uniontown, Ohio, Jack (Amanda) Prough, Virginia and Jason Shockley all of Akron, Ohio; seven great grandchildren with one on the way (Maizey) and a great great grandson on the way; sister, Janice Alcorn of Syracuse, New York; nephews, Bob Alcorn of Syracuse, New York and Terry (Amy) Alcorn of North Carolina
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses and aides at Harmony Cares Hospice for helping them care for Harold during the past year.
Everyone is invited to attend the service with military honors Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2:45 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273.
