Harold Smith

Harold Smith "Joe", 61, of Akron, passed away Saturday January 12 at Akron General Medical Center after battling cancer. He was born in Charleston, WV. He enjoyed all sports but actively paricipated in golf and softball. Joe was a longtime employee of Our Lady of the Elms School, where he enjoyed most of his work time. Joe was especially fond of his time spent with his children and most importantly his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Wanda Salisbury. Joe is survived by his wife of 18 yrs Diane (nee Chapman);sons Tim Smith (Chris) and Todd (Sue);step-daughters Vicki Lamson (Ted) and Tonya Abbott (John);sisters Kay Carte and Connie Miller;brothers Tom and Jerry Salisbury;grandchildren Katie, Kim, Kevin, Robbie, Shane, Chad, Landon, Zack, Billy, Sherri, Tia (Tom);step-father Manuel Salisbury. Family will receive friends on Tuesday January 15 from 6-9 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd, Akron. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12 PM at the funeral home, with Pastor William Moore officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore. Family requests donations be sent to the any lung cancer research programs.
