Harold Boyce "Hal" Starcher

September 17, 1927 — June 14, 2024

Harold (Hal) Boyce Starcher passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 96. He was born on September 17, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, to Harold B. and Lora E. (Reynolds) Starcher.

Hal grew up in Akron's Five Points neighborhood and loved telling stories about working at Five Points Restaurant and the Zipper Hospital.

He graduated early from West High School to join the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS St. George (AV-16) 1945-1946.
After his service, Hal attended the University of Akron and joined Theta Chi fraternity, where he developed his love of singing as a member of their glee club.
While in the Student Union, he was captivated by the beautiful smile of a young woman whom he would marry on November 9, 1950. He and Genevieve Crawford were married for 73 years.

In 1952, Hal began working as a cost accountant for Goodyear Aircraft, eventually retiring from Lockheed Martin. He enjoyed bowling and golfing with the good friends he made there.
Hal was a regular on Friday nights at the American Legion Post 19 with his good friend Bob McKee.

Hal loved dogs, having had 7, with the first and last both named Tiger.
Hal also had a parakeet named Petey but especially liked Tracy's parakeet, Pickles, that sipped Sherry from his glass.

Hal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Genny. He is survived by his "girls," daughters, Sheri (Jim) Wurster, Patricia (Tim) Brown, and Tracy (Daniel) Hahe. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kara Wurster, Erin (Adam) Greenberg, Patrick (Ashley) Hahe, and Allie Hahe (Susie Yi), and his great- grandchildren, Simon and Gretchen Penney and his devoted dog Tiger.
Per Hal's wishes, his life will be celebrated privately by his family.
