Harold L. Watkins, 91, passed away April 7, 2020 after a brief illness. Born in Akron to Claude and Mary (Lessley) Watkins, he was a lifelong area resident. He served overseas in Germany while in the U. S. Air Force. Harold worked as an engineer at Goodyear Aerospace, George J. Meyer Manufacturing and Babcock & Wilcox. He greatly enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling, bowling, golfing, fishing, coaching, attending Mogadore High School football games and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, making puzzles, playing yahtzee and reading about history. Harold loved to tell stories in amazing detail, often from long ago. Dad was living proof that one could live a long and prosperous life while frequently enjoying Barberton chicken dinners.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Mary; daughter, Christina. Harold will be sadly missed by children, Rick (Nichol), Greg (Cathy), Karen (Chris) Ratcliff; grandchildren, Sarah (Brian), Gregory (Bethany), Chase, Zachary, Nick (Ildie), Dan (Jamie), Scott (Amanda), Kellie (Chris), Corey; great grandchildren, Avery, Jaxon, Logan, Aria, Isabella, Cannon; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation and services will be private at Newcomer, Akron Chapel. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
