Helen Barbra (Honey) Marteny (nee Lerch)
Helen Marteny, 80, passed away January 30, 2009. She was born June 12, 1928 to Henry and Julianna Lerch of Akron, Ohio. Helen lived in Akron her whole life. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past president of the Firestone VFW Post 3383 Women's Auxiliary. She loved vacationing at Rice Lake, Canada for 58 years, fishing, playing cards, board games, and bingo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin (Bud); sister, Eva; and brother, Henry. Helen will be deeply missed by her sons, Alvin (Jan) and Donald J.; daughter, Cynthia (David) Parravani; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis and Margie. She also leaves many loving family members and all her friends from the VFW and Rice Lake, Canada. Calling hours will be Monday from 6-9 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10-11 at Zion Lutheran Church, 139 S. High St., Akron. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
