She's gone to be with God, after a long illness. Helen M. Russo, 82 years old, was born in Akron on July 15, 1934 to Mable and Henry Stephens. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church on Eastwood Ave. for many years and sang alto in the choir. Helen donated some of her time at the Haven of Rest and was in the Ladie's auxiliary. She loved the fellowship at church and also at the Haven of Rest. Helen loved to have people over for dinner, had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very giving person.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis A. Russo; daughter, Toni A. Himes; brothers, Clyde D. Stephens and Leroy Stephens; and sister, Ruby P. Farmer. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Jeff) Janeda, Andrea (Joe) Harris, Louis (Stephanie) Russo II; sister, Maxine Samie; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends are welcome to call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron and from 9-10 am on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Funeral service will take place at 10 am on Thursday. Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Free Will Baptist Church.
