Henry George Schmitt
Henry George Schmitt, 82, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away January 26, 2012. He was born in Pittsburgh on March 10, 1929. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Engineering and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in West Germany during the Korean War. During his career, George worked for both Jones & Laughlin Steel and Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. He was a founding member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Pittsburgh. George was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Otillia; wife, Mary; and brother, James. He will be deeply missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Schmitt and Lisa Kohler Schmitt; brother, Robert (Kathryn) Schmitt and sister, Mary Killgallon, both of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Henrietta Schmitt; and grandchildren, Andrew, Peter, and Erika Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, January 29 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212-1607.
