Herschel Willard Maust, Sr.
Herschel Willard Maust, Sr., 90, went home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2007. Born in Newburg, West Virginia, Herschel had lived in the Akron area since 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church and F&AM Coventry-Akron #83. Herschel is survived by his daughters, Patty Pickens of Cuyahoga Falls and Peggy (Carl) Stevens of Uniontown; son, Herschel (Julie) of Norton; brother, Robert (Jean) of Washington Courthouse; grandchildren, Deborah Banks, Robert Pickens, Todd Pickens, Kim Bergman, Stacy Robinson, Bryan Stevens, Shelly Hill, Sarah Maust, and Andrew Maust; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Cathy Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ethel Jane Maust; brothers, Arthur, Donald, Harold, Harry, and Melvin; and sister, Helen. The family would like to thank Hospice of Summa, Nurse Linda Nugent, Dr. Dan Cevasco, and everyone that assisted in Herschel's care. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a Masonic service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with visitation for one hour prior, Pastor Sherman Bailey officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Summa.
