Homer Louis Snyder (Lou)
Homer Louis Snyder (Lou), 85 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2011. Lou was born in Akron, Ohio on August 23, 1926 and was a life long Ohioan. He grew up in North Hill, later lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Ellet, and then Tallmadge. He was a graduate of North High School and Kent State University. Lou was a veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 209, and a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired from Akron Standard division of Eagle Picher after 21 years of service. Lou was a man of few words and not one to boast about his accomplishments. Anyone who met Lou knew they would be greeted with a smile and a fond hello. Lou seemed to make friends young and old as he would walk his dog in his neighborhood. He loved to tell stories of when he was growing up or tell about what an area used to be like and how it changed from then to today. He would smile and laugh as he relived his stories and it made you smile along with him. He was preceded in death by parents, Floyd L. Snyder and Bernadine J. (Siegfried) Snyder; his wife, Geraldine G. (Jerry) Snyder; and his longtime companion, Donna B. (Bernie) Kalman. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth J. Wahl and her son and special nephew, Jay Wahl; Kenneth B. Kalman (Theresa), Louis Kalman, and Kimberly Kalman; grandchildren, Lisa McFreddries (Chris), Carina (Ted), Bryon Black, Ashley Kalman, and Nicholas Kalman. Special thanks to Summa for all their excellent care and support. Visitation will be Wednesday January 4 from 5-7 followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Private interment at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge, Ohio.
