Hortencia Stone
"The Prayer Warrior"
Hortencia Stone, 84, died peacefully on June 21, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was known for being a prayer warrior and a faithful servant of the Lord. Once you were put on her prayer list, you had someone praying for you for life. She was a loving and giving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. Her door and heart were always open to those in need. She was known for her homemade food which was always plentiful. She was especially known for her apple pies and Mexican food. Hortencia's family would like to thank special friends Penneye Hopkins and Jean Lindgren, along with Sr. Independence Hospice nurses Verna and Neely. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Earl. She is survived by her children, George Hopkins, Mike (Lorann) Hopkins, Mary Jackson, Eileen (Scott) Smoot, Margaret (Ray) McElroy, and E. Joe (Kim) Stone; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday, 4-8 p.m. at Green Valley United Methodist Church, 620 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., Green, OH 44319. Funeral service Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
