UNIONTOWN - Howard (Windy) E. Hoover, 63, went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2005. Born in Altoona, PA on March 30, 1941, Howard lived in the Akron area for most of his life. He graduated from Springfield HS in 1959 and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. When asked what he thought was the most significant moment in his life, he cited graduating from Paris Island-it gave him the discipline he carried throughout his life and made him the man he was. Howard cited that his second major accomplishment was becoming a Master Mason in 1991 and then as Master of his lodge in 2000. Howard was an active member of Amos H. Englebeck #751, Valley of Canton Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton York Rite, and Eastern Star member of Delta Chapter #539. Preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hoover; sister, Norma (Toots) Hoover; and brother, David Hoover; he is survived by his loving wife of almost 15 years, Patti; stepdaughter, Donielle Ensminger; mother, Alice; brothers, Mike (Carol) of Spokane, WA, Rex (Patti) of Summerduck, VA, and Glenn (Nancy) of Akron; sister, Ruth (Leon) Wolpert of Akron; sisters-in-law, Earlene Hoover of Akron, Dawn (Doug) of Owensboro, KY; brothers-in-law, Jon (Rhonda) of Louisville, Nelson (Melanie) of Plano, TX; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. Services will be held Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at Canton Masonic Temple, 836 Market Ave N, Canton, Ohio, with the Rev. Harry Van Fleet officiating. Friends may call at the Canton Masonic Temple from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where Amos H. Englebeck Lodge will conduct a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center located at 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Oncology Floor at Akron City Hospital, Dr. Payne of Summit Oncology, Dr. McIntosh of McIntosh Community Health, Summa's Hospice Center (especially to Howard's team made up of Kim, Mary Beth, Connie, Kay, Dan and Jim), and the staff of Hospice Care Center for their compassionate care.
