Hugh "Sonny" Sloan
Hugh "Sonny" Sloan, 78, went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2012.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Korea. Sonny retired from General Metals Powder Co. after 38 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Edmund Sloan; and step-son, David Parsell.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Anna Parsell-Sloan; children, Micki (Frank) Ryan, Cathy A. Sloan, Connie (Chuck) DeShon, Ronnie Greathouse, Joann (John) Putnam, Allen (Lori) Parsell, Shawn (Linda) Parsell, and Bob Parsell; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 16, from 4 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will be held Tuesday, April 17, at 11 am with Pastor Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakemore United Methodist Church.
