Ida Mary Covey, 89, of Akron, passed away December 9, 2010 at Akron City Hospital. She was born September 16, 1921 in Canfield, Ohio to the late Heber & Katherine (Measmer) Donaldson. Ida was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She drove school bus for the Green School System. She loved being a mother and built an extraordinary relationship with both her children and grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. Ida was lovingly known as "The Pie Maker" because of her delicious pies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Alvin R. Covey, Jr. and Roger D. Covey; daughter, Carol Ann "Sue" Covey; grandson, Scott Spoerndle; 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alvin R. Covey; sons, Jerry (Vicki) Covey and Gordon (Tana) Covey; grandchildren, Cindy, Christopher, Jeffrey, Nathan, James and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Barrett, Jessie, Reese, Cooper and Tiffany. Funeral services will be conducted at Newcomer Funeral Home on Monday at 6:00 p.m. with Mr. David Bargerstock officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the service begins. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the care givers during her time of illness.
