Ira "Frank" Myers, age 90 of Akron passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Akron, Frank was born to the late Wilbur and Edna {Herbst} Myers on May 14, 1931.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by sister-in-law Carol Myers and nephew Gary "Doug" Myers.
Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley {Bishop} Myers; sons Steve (Karen), Dave (Terri) and Don (Judy) Myers; grandchildren Andy, Alyse, Justin, Tyler, Drew, Ashley, Christie, Bethany and Todd; brother Gary Myers; niece Susan (Rick) Kisamore; numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members.
Frank graduated from West High School in 1949 and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1953. He later joined the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co, retiring in 1994 with 35-years of service after spending his entire career in their Akron corporate offices. That wasn't enough for him, however, as he then worked part-time for Auto Driveaway for many years, retiring in 2021 after receiving his cancer diagnosis. Frank greatly enjoyed volunteer work, giving many years of service to the Soap Box Derby, United Way, and the NEC golf tournaments at Firestone where he was named volunteer of the year in 2004. He was also a long-time member of the Goodyear Hts. Lions Club. Frank loved people, and had an uncanny ability to remember names, faces and places. He enjoyed social activities and vacations with a wonderful circle of friends, annual treks to the Indy 500, as well as hosting family get togethers. He also took great pride in finding unique holiday gifts for family and friends.
Per Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Thursday, April 7th at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Ave., Akron, OH 44312, at 10:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Frank will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where private military honors will be held for his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
