The heartening Ivene Catherine Moats, 84, of Akron surrendered to her Savior's call to "Come home", on February 8, 2012, at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) and Justin T. Rogers Care Center, Akron. Born on January 7, 1928 in Altoona, PA, the eldest daughter of the late Ivan Clyde and the late Edith Mae (Routzhan) Staire, she relocated to the Akron area in the early 1930's, where she became "big sister" to her three siblings: Charles (late Donna) Staire, of Green Peggyann (George) Helmstedter, of Akron, and Forrest (Patty) Staire, of Sadorus, IL. Ivene was a 1946 graduate of Coventry High School. In 1950, following her initial employment with Yoder Brothers, Ivene took a position with Sun Rubber Company, where she met her husband of sixty years, Paul S. Moats, Sr. They were married in 1951 and the next eight years launched Ivene into her starring role of the Moats version of "My three sons". Two of the three- Jeff and Paul Jr. (Renate) reside in Akron. Oldest son Larry, predeceased his dear mother on November 15, 1970. In addition to, and concurrent with, raising three sons, Ivene launched a cleaning business that met the cleaning need of private home owners and doctor and/or dentist's offices. Ivene put her extraordinary work ethic to good use to ensure your doctor and/or dentist floors glistened! Flower gardening was a life-long love for Ivene. She nurtured the plants and flowers which surround her home and savored the impending appearance of her beloved butterflies. Perhaps it was the time she spent relishing the beauty of God's creation that filled her soul with the overflowing joy for which Ivene will always be remembered. In addition to her husband, Paul, her sons and her siblings, Ivene leaves behind many nieces/nephews and their families, beloved former daughter-in-law, Sharon K., and close and dear friends, some of which include Dr. John P. Robinson and his staff. All have been blessed beyond measure to have known, and been known by her. Her incredible upbeat, positive attitude-in the midst of trials- is a jewel worthy to be treasured. Might the seed of goodness she planted in all of our souls be watered with gratitude and love. The family would like to publicly acknowledge the superior and most loving care provided by Miss Ruth Carter. Ruth graciously gave above and beyond that which was required- and we are certain that Ivene would like to whisper in her ear, just one last time…"you look so pretty today, Ruthie". Calling hours will be Saturday, 12-2 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
