Jack (John) Sholtis, age 91, of Stark County passed away peacefully on January 12th 2025. Born on February 28th 1933 in Canton, Ohio, Jack graduated from Timken in 1951 and was an Army Veteran. He retired from welding at Shanafelt Manufacturing in 1998. Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, baseball coach, and a cherished member of the community and First Christian Church.
Jack is survived by wife Joyce; children Debbie (Rich), Brian; daughter-in-law Crystal; grandchildren Jeffery, Rachel and Sarah; and his cat Smokey. Jack is preceded in death by parents John and Ethel Sholtis; son Rick; and brothers Arthur and Thomas.
He was known for his incredible Baseball coaching career in the Canton Class A League where he served as head coach of the Pizza Oven team for 20 years and Malone University for 17 years. He holds the record for most wins in Class A history with 605 and he also has eight Class A championships to his credit. He was inducted into the Greater Canton Slo-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1997. He was also inducted into the Canton Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. Jack even had one athlete from Class A sign with the New York Yankees in the late 1990's. He coached for 48 years in total.
Visitation will be at First Christian Church Tuesday January 21st 4-7pm and Wednesday January 22nd 10-11am. Funeral begins Wednesday 11am in the church, 6900 Market Ave N Canton, OH 44720. Final resting place is Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
