Jack L. Long "Jack of Diamonds"
Jack L. Long, born on November 26, 1938 in Summersville, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. We know he will be joyously reunited there with his son, Brent and his parents, French and Martha Long.
Jack's great sense of fun and legendary generosity made him friends wherever he went. Like the song says, Jack did it his way. He was a pied piper to children. The light of his life was his grandson, Little Jack.
Jack resided in Akron for most of his life but was widely traveled and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Hawaii the year it became a state. During his years in Akron, he retired as a truck driver from Shantz Cartage. He also owned Circle City CB for 34 years.
Jack was lucky at cards and also in love, which was evident by his 46 year marriage to his beautiful wife, Margaret "Margie". His extended family members are the ones who were lucky to have him all these years. They include his children, Jackie (Terry) Wright and Eric Long; grandson, Jack Wright; siblings, Jimmy (Dyanne) Long, June Wise, Joe (Debbie) Long, Jeannette Gaynor, Becky (Stan) Rose, and Cindy (Scott) Campbell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends may call TODAY, Thursday, March 15 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Visitation will be Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Shoreline Community Church, 790 Carnegie Ave, Akron, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with Rev. Scott Campbell officiating. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Post 449.
