Jack W. Mcintyre

Jack W. McIntyre, loving husband, father and grandfather, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. Born in Elmira Heights, NY, in November 1915, Jack was a graduate of East High School and also had one year of college at Cornell University. He was a member of First Church of God, Tallmadge, Ohio (formerly McKinley Avenue Church of God) and lived most of his life in the Akron area.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, wisdom, and generosity. His work not only enabled him to provide for his family, but to share his gifts of service. He was active in numerous social, church, and civic organizations, and devoted his life to helping others in need. Whether the need was for encouragement, prayer, wise counsel, employment, material or financial assistance, or just a hug, smile, and a kind word, Jack was willing to help in whatever way possible and knew where to find someone who could help if he couldn't. One of his personal creeds, repeated often in numerous occasions throughout his life, was:
I have wept in the night,
For the shortness of sight;
That somebody's needs
Made me blind.
But I never have yet,
Shed a tear of regret;
For being a little too kind.

Through whatever came his way, Jack would often be heard whistling a tune or singing a verse as he traveled along life's road. He was a devoted friend to many and it was often said of him that he truly never met a stranger, regardless of their age or walk in life.

In 1941, he went to work at B.F. Goodrich and was a member of Local 5 URW for over 35 years. He retired from the Summit County United Way as the Director of Labor Participation and from the Akron Medina Labor Council AFL-CIO as Director of Community Services.

Jack was preceded in death by his son, Jack Charles (April 1961); his parents: Jack C. McIntyre and Kathryn M. Milliken; step-father: Charles Milliken; step-mother, Genevieve McIntyre; sisters: Helen Wierzbicki and Agnes Miller; brothers: Joseph Milliken, Eddie Milliken, Tom Milliken; and many friends as well.

He will be greatly missed by Naomi, his loving wife of nearly 63 years; daughters: Jill (Daniel) Dauphars (Mogadore, OH) and Jean (Verl) Harnapp (Irvine, CA); grandchildren: Danielle and Jack Dauphars and Dana Harnapp; sisters: Ruth (Jim) Geonis, Jean (Dale) Bruce, Annette Jopson, and Carol DeWitt; brothers: Dick McIntyre, Charlie (Virginia) Milliken, Jim Milliken, and Billy Milliken; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Jack served the Lord in various capacities using his gifts, time and talents in numerous ways as the Lord called him to throughout the years, including the former "Friends of the Carpenter" group at First Church of God. He greatly loved, and was loved by, his family, church family, neighbors, and friends.

He served his community through service on the Board of the Akron Child Guidance Center, the Juvenile Justice Committee, Akron Health Foundation, and the Board of Local 5 URW, just to name a few. He was also very active with the Red Cross blood programs and Salvation Army's Christmas Bureau where he also served as a bell ringer for many years.

As a veteran of World War II, he served his country from May, 1942 through December, 1945, as member of the 1378th AAF Base Unit.
