James C. Christner "Papa"
James C. Christner, 68, passed away January 3, 2014. He was born in Salisbury, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1945 to the late Ralph and Sadie Christner. As a child, Jim's friends called him "Speedy". He came to Ohio when he was seventeen and was married to the love of his life, Shirley, for 38 years before she went home to be with the Lord. Now they are together again! Jim retired in 2006 from Mays IGA. In his retirement, he enjoyed good meals, checking the mail, spending time with family, and of course his long trips to the grocery store. He was the best father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend that anyone could ever have. Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; and siblings, Betsy Christner, Eva Hotchkiss, and Ray Christner. He is survived by his children, Michael (Aimee) Christner and Jennifer (Ed) Grubb; siblings, Jack (Alice) Christner and Janet (Grady) Gilpin; grandchildren, Jamie, Emily, and Christian; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7 from 5-7 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Bill Johnson officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
