James David Cantor Jr., 74, of Akron passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on May 16, 1949 in Jonesville, Virginia to the late James and Ilse Cantor. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy in Vietnam from 1971-1972. Jim was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, retiring from Saint-Gobain in 2014 with 36 years of service.
Our Dad loved woodworking, frequently building items for friends and family. He also loved 60's rock music, Star Wars, a good flannel shirt, and the pursuit to prove that Bigfoot is out there.
Besides his parents, Dad is proceeded in death by his brother Danny and sister Monika; brothers-in-law Howard Frick and Donnie Merlitti.
Dad is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; son Tony (Jamie); daughter Angela (Nate); granddaughters Sarah (Will) and Summer (Tristan); great-granddaughter Alayna Ellison; his grandson and "little buddy" Joshua Dominic. He is also survived by his brother Eric (Dorothy), sister Patty Merlitti, sister-in-law Candy Cantor, honorary family Becky (Tyler) Whitton and their daughters Hadley and Harper, nieces, nephews, and so many caring friends.
All are invited to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m. Interment with well-deserved military honors will follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, where Jim will be laid to rest. The family requests casual entire for Dad. Please consider wearing your favorite jeans and best flannel shirt.
