JAMES R DAWSON (JIM or JIMMY) passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at age 81 at home with family.
He was discharged from the US Marine Corps due to a knee injury before serving in war. He was still a proud Veteran and showed proper respect to others that served. He worked for Swagelok but he retired in 2006 with 19 years of service from SSP Fittings. He was a 40 year Master Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of Amaranth and other Masonic Bodies over the years. As a child he was raised Catholic; he and his wife raised their girls in the New Apostolic Church. For many recent years, Jim and his wife were members of Bethel Lutheran Church of Richfield.
He was lover of model trains. He had many train trinkets and Christmas ornaments that were gifted to him over the years. He loved his family, camping, and fishing. Many of his stories were with his brother-in-law, Don, and sister-in-law, Ginger. Throughout the years, he was often the "camera man" for family gatherings. He loved fellowship time and any time there was food involved in an event.
His Life was a Blessing, his Memory a treasure, he is Loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure by his loving and caring wife of 59 1/2 years, Patricia, brother, William Dawson, Sister-in-law, Sarah Schoolcraft, daughters Tracy (Ken McKay) Dawson, Karen Dawson of NC, and Terry (Jason) VanHorn. As well as grandchildren, Kailee (Joshua) Biller, Cassandra (Matt) Kokal, David Dawson of NC, James VanHorn, Sage Whaeler and great-grandchildren, Blake and Alexis Biller and Brantley Kokal. Many nieces, nephews and grands as well as friends' children that have been touched by his gentleness. And his dog, Susie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Mary, first baby daughter, Mary Elizabeth, nephew-in-law, Donald Payne Jr., father, Edward Bruce, mother-in-law, Patricia E. Wise, brother-in-law, Troy Schoolcraft, Sister-in-law, Virginia Payne, Brother-in-law, Daniel Crosser, Sister, Ruthie Crosser, Brother-in-law Donald E Payne, Sister-in-law, Dalette Dawson and Grandson, Chandler C. VanHorn.
Calling hours will be Monday, December 6, 2021 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. followed at 3 p.m. by the Funeral Service with Masonic, Eastern Star, Amaranth ceremonies. You are invited to a dinner afterwards served at Bethel Lutheran Church, 3852 Everett Rd, Richfield 44286.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for final expenses.
