James Vito Dibona

August 2, 1955 — May 5, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness to announce that on May 10, 2021, James "Jimmy" Vito DiBona went home to be with the Lord. Jimmy was born in Akron, Ohio on August 2, 1955 to the late Joseph and Hildreth (Moore) DiBona.

Jimmy's life would seem too short to many but those that were touched by him understood the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.

Jimmy grew up in Goodyear Heights and graduated from East High School in 1973. He started his employment at a very young age working at Fiesta Pizza & Chicken… the best restaurant and a staple place in "The Heights"! After graduation, he went on to serve the City of Akron in a supervisor role and retired after 30 years of service. He then decided to continue his career by Supervising the Snow and Ice Program for the City of Dublin, Ohio. Once he retired from Civil Service, he took on the role as a business owner and ran a very successful beverage store in Willowick, Ohio.

When he wasn't working, he enjoyed golfing, watching sports and being with family.

To his family he was many things; he was kind, generous, loving, supportive, a great storyteller, had the greatest sense of humor and was king of practical jokes. Although he was all of this to his family, he was a hero to the City of Akron. He was recognized by Mayor Plusquellic in 1988 for putting his life on the line by single handedly saving a family from a house fire. He will always be a hero to us.

He cherished the following family members he leaves behind; his daughter Maria DiBona of New York; his brother Joseph (Lisa) DiBona of Akron; his sister Joanne (Jim) Channell of Cleveland; his wife Holly (Fickle) DiBona of Akron; his nieces Kayla Channell, Denielle (Walt) (DiBona) Carey, his nephews Joseph DiBona and Cory Popson; great niece Audrey DiBona and great nephews, Maddox DiBona, Gino and Donovan Carey, in addition to the numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Family and Friends are welcome to visit Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The service will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home followed by Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Waterloo Road, Akron, OH.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their incredible outpouring of support during this most difficult time.
