James "Jimmy" "Digger" Dullen died on Monday, Sept 25, 2023 at his home in Bedford, Ohio. Born on July 20, 1948, in Morrisdale, PA, he spent most of his life in Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Central High School in 1967, where he was a stand-out basketball player under the late Coach Joe Siegferth.
In 1968, Jimmy joined Seiberling Tire & Rubber Company in Barberton, where he worked for the next 13 years until the company closed its doors in 1981. This created the opportunity to pursue his life-long love of thoroughbred horseracing, becoming a jockey agent for several successful and well-known riders at race tracks across the country. As a result, he befriended many great horsemen throughout the years. More recently, he spent his time working for NAPA Auto Parts in Maple Heights.
Some of his favorite activities were handicapping horses and spending time with his friends. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed cheering on his favorite Cleveland teams.
Preceded in death by son Jimmy and parents James and Kathleen "Kass" Dullen, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Frank LaGarde, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Gayle Simcox, dear friend of 30 years Beth Allenick, former wife Carol, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends at VFW 1082.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, the Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation or a favorite charity.
A celebration of life also will be held 2-5pm on Saturday, Nov 25, 2023, at Timko's Tavern, 89 Northfield Road, Bedford, OH 44146.
