James Orland Dye, 85, of Akron, passed away on June 23, 2018. He was born in Reedsville, Ohio on September 9, 1932 to the late Thomas and Elma Dye. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Akron in May 1968. Jim began as a meter reader and worked his way up into finance for the City of Akron. He retired, as City Treasurer, after 33 years of total service, in May 1992. He also retired from Northfield Park after over 40 years. Jim and his wife Ella were lifetime members of The Chapel in Akron. He had many favorite fishing spots and enjoyed being on the water with his sons and grandchildren. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the City of Akron Retirees Golf Team. Jim's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucy Beers, Amy Morehouse, and Martha Lou Dye; and brothers, Charles and Harry Dye. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Ella; children, Kimberly (Terry W.) Rutledge Jr. of Hartville, Timothy (Kimberly) Dye of Strongsville, and Daniel Dye (Shellie Young) of Akron; brother, Thurman Dye of Coolville; grandchildren, Samuel Rutledge and Amanda, Miranda, Alexandra, and Jacob Dye; great-grandson, Emerson Dye; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Jim will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
