James F. "Jim" Martin
James F. "Jim" Martin, 86, of Brimfield, formerly of Ellet, passed away November 26, 2007. He was born October 2, 1921 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Frank & Elizabeth (Tate) Martin. Jim lived in Akron most of his life and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later retired from General Tire Co. After retiring from General Tire he enjoyed his small engine repair business. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, being outdoors and working in the garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary V. (Werner) Martin; second wife, Verda (Kaiser) Martin; brother, Frank; sisters, Jewel, Betty and Ruby; special nephew, James Herman Griffin. He is survived by his children, Susann (Steve) Hinkle, Mike Martin, Joe Martin and Joanne (Jeff) Riddle; step-son, Roger (Cora) Kaiser; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; special nieces, Phyllis (John) Decker and Portia Griffin; many other special family, friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron beginning at 7 p.m. with Rev. William Cord officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the service begins. Interment will take place on Friday at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with a procession forming at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mark Smith and his staff for always being there as well as to his favorite caregiver, Anna "Andy".
