James D. Gartner

Jim D. Gartner "Papaw", 42, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2005. He was employed as a security officer for Summa Health System. Jim served for 15 years as a Captain with the Lakemore Fire Department. He was the first person to receive the honor of "firefighter of the year". He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his grandparents Chester and Irene Gartner and his grandmother Bernadine Holley. Survivors include his wife Irene; father James A. (Darlene) Gartner; mother Eva (Bob) Starcher; son James (Jennifer) Gartner, Jr.; daughter Misty (Matthew) Sivert; brothers John (Ronda) and Dwayne (Cassie); sisters Sheila (John) Foreman, Michele (Rick) White, Carol (Don) Slack, Chanin (Weston) George, Lori Gartner, Tracy Gartner, and Katie Gartner; grandchildren Serenity, Jacob, Stormie, and another on the way; grandfather Joseph W. Holley; mother-in-law Patricia Jarvis; and a host of other family members. Calling hours will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral service Saturday, 1 p.m. at the funeral home with calling hours one hour prior to the service. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
