James G. Gay, 95, of Atwater, passed away on November 3, 2021. Jim was born on March 2, 1926 in Akron, Ohio to the late Wasson and Genevia Gay. He was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the service, he spent his career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He also worked and lived on the family farm in Atwater. In his free time, Jim was an avid pilot. He owned his own plane and had an airstrip on his farm. He and Dorothy enjoyed flying all of the country, including to Alaska. Jim and his wife Dorothy were members of Atwater United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son, Richard; and brother, Robert. He will be dearly missed by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Norma Gay; daughter-in-law, Beverly Gay; sister, Margie Gay; grandchildren, Steve Gay, Tom (Renee) Gay, David (Sheila) Gay, and Brian Gay; Tammy (Jeff) Jarrett, and Tiffany (Jason) Myers; numerous great-grandchildren, extended relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 12-1 followed by a 1:00 p.m. funeral service at Atwater United Methodist Church, 6380 Waterloo Rd, Atwater, OH 44201. Please plan on wearing a mask while inside the church. Interment at Atwater Cemetery.
