James L. "Jack" Holcomb
James L. "Jack" Holcomb, 76, of Akron, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2005. Born on February 11, 1929 in Maysel, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James J. & Ida C. (Morris) Holcomb. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Deborah Louise, and 3 brothers, Leon, Calvin and Dana. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 28. He is also survived by 3 daughters, Karen (John) Nelson, Amy (Dean) Page and Melissa (Donald) Schismenos; 2 sons, James II (Patty) and Daniel. He very much adored his 6 grandchildren: Nathan, Nicholas, Zach, Steven, Kristine and Vincent. He also leaves 2 sisters, Lydia Schafstall and Imogene Miller; brother, Lloyd C. all of Maysel, WV and brother, Bob (Anne) of Bolivar, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. James retired as a heavy equipment operator for Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18 after 37 years of service. He had served as a Webelos and an Indian Guide Leader. He was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church and very involved in their activities, and a member of Portage Lakes Masonic Lodge 752. He will be remembered for his great love and devotion for his wife and family and for always being there, when needed, with a helping hand and a smile. Calling hours at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. will be Thursday from 4 - 6 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church with calling hours one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in memory of James L. Holcomb may be made to the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, Elevator Fund.
