James K. "Ken" Magill
James K. "Ken" Magill, 74, of Akron, passed away May 20, 2008 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Harry Simpson & Margaret Elizabeth (Devese) Magill. Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a skipper on a family owned 85 foot schooner that was in many films, including "Adventures in Paradise." The boat was later sold to singer Glen Yarbrough. He skippered many movie stars from the mainland to Catalina. Ken also raced stock cars in California. Later in years, Ken enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-sons, David and Rick Kiser; brother, Bill Magill; and former wife, Jackie Magill. He is survived by his loving and devoted companion of 20 years, Kathy; sons, Chuck (Dawn) Magill and Kenny Magill; step-sons, Larry (Linda) Kiser and Dennis (Sara) Kiser; grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew and Timmy Magill, Josh, Jeremiah and Matthew Kiser; Jacob and Michael Kiser; brother, John "Tom" (Marty) Magill. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Community Church of Portage Lakes, 3260 Cormany Rd., Akron OH 44319 with Pastor John Thielenhaus officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:30 p.m., Friday until the service begins.
