James L. Flanagan, 94, of Akron, passed away January 12, 2013. He was born in Akron, OH on December 28, 1918 to the late James and Dora Flanagan. Jim retired from Dave Towell Cadillac, Inc. after 34 years. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII and also served in the Korean Conflict. Jim was a member of Knights of Columbus #4664, VFW – Mogadore, American Legion, Mogadore Senior Citizens, St. Matthew Catholic Church and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Rita C. (Schrader), of 63 years; brothers, William, Paul and Donald; sisters, Irene Batley, Mary Ellen Marquardt and Dora Mae Thompkins.
Jim is survived by his children, Dolores (Bob) Dadik, Jim (Nora), Kathleen (Jim) Seiwert, Joan (Gene), Michael (Bill Hughes), Tom (Tamara) and Maureen Flanagan; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Anne), Steve (Pat), Tom (Linda); sister, Margaret Paumier. The family gives thanks to the staff of Rockynol Retirement Community for their continued loving care of Jim and his wife, Rita. Their care provided the family with a sense of peace in Jim and Rita's final years.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, January 16, from 5-7 PM followed by the Rosary at 7 PM, NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, January 17, 10 AM at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Benton St., Akron, OH 44312 with Fr. Michael Williamson presiding. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Randolph, OH.
