James W. Newman, Jr., "Jim", age 69, of Akron, Ohio, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his home.
He was born in Akron on July 16, 1947, the son of the late James W. and Mary Lou Burkett Newman, Sr.
Jim was a truck driver, retired from Labolt Trucking in Greentown. He loved to play his guitar and was a woodworker.
Other than his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Shaffer; and his only sister, Naomi Shockey.
Survivors include his two sons, James W. "Buzzy" (Cyd) Newman, III, and Calvin Lee (Teri) Newman; his grandchildren, Johnathan James Newman and Carsyn Lee Newman; former wife, Betty R. Newman.
Celebration of Jim's life will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where Elder Ernest A. Tidwell, officiating. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 PM until the time of the service.
