James "Papa Joe" Richmond, 83, passed away peacefully at home May 4, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born in Harlan, Kentucky to Albert Richmond and Juanita Creech, he resided in the Akron, Ohio area most of his life. Papa Joe retired from Chrysler with 30 years of service and he was proud to be a U. S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed vintage cars, going to car shows, gardening, long walks and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Papa Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Meri: son-in-law, Christopher Walker. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Alayna Walker, Marissa (Irvan) McMurtry, Valecia (Jeff) Springston; grandchildren, Justin, James Kyle, Brittany, Brianna, Francessca, Gabrielle, Irvan, IV, Alexandra, Lance, Braydan, Julian, Marie; great grandchildren, Braydan, Jaidyn, Marquez, Ezekiel, Xavier, Lamont; sisters, Judy Richmond, Arra Robinson; many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Summa Hospice, specifically Jackie, Tiffany, Shakee and Darlene for their loving care of Papa Joe.
There will be a family gathering to celebrate Papa Joe's life at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Papa Joe's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
