James S. "Jim" Shimko, 60, of Akron, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2022. He was born on May 27, 1962 to the late James M. and Marilyn {Nervo} Shimko.
He graduated from Ellet High School in 1980 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Kent State. He worked for the Times Reporter and then switched careers to join the Boy Scouts of America until he retired. He was involved in the Scouting organization since childhood, where he gained the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He also earned Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor and many other distinguished awards.
After retiring from Scouting, he became actively involved with The Cleveland Clinic Challenge Golf Course (formerly Edwin Shaw). He volunteered as well as played in the league.
Preceded in death by his father, he leaves behind his mother, brother Todd; daughters Danette (Gary) Prather and Kalli (Kevin Berling) Shimko; son Cory Archer; ex-wife Pat Shimko; grandsons Dustin, Kyle and Brandon; and many relatives and friends.
