James” Jim” Leonard Stricklin, age 72, formerly of Akron and Green, Ohio, passed away on May 21, 2024, in Deerfield, Ohio.
Jim is dearly missed by his partner of 14 years, Betty Drennen, his sisters Nancy Gilmore, and Becky (Troy) Geer, his grandson Patrick Smith, his niece Brenda Stripe, his nephews John (Cheri) Whitaker, Sam Geer, and Luke (Lauren) Geer, as well as his great-niece, great nephew, and great-great niece. He also leaves behind many cherished extended family members and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine, his father Leonard, and his sisters Mary Jo Perry and Shirley Whitaker.
Jim dearly loved classic country-western music. He shared his joy, talent, and enthusiasm by playing and listening to the songs that filled his soul. He performed in many country bands throughout his life and was a proud member of various Ohio country-western music associations. Although Jim enjoyed numerous performers, his favorite country artist was always ‘Whispering Bill’ Anderson.
Jim had faith in the Lord and was a member of Cornerstone Church in Akron. Unfortunately, his health and move to Deerfield prevented him from attending church services in recent years.
A Celebration of Life honoring Jim will be held on August 4, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 555, located at 89 Waterloo Rd., Akron, OH 44319.
May Jim's tunes continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
