James W. Topa Sr.

James W. Topa Sr., 84, passed away at home on August 22, 2022. Jim was born on August 27, 1937 to the late Steven J. and Viva A. Topa. He leaves his dear wife, Suzanne; son, James W. Topa Jr. and his son's mother, Sandra Topa; sisters, Gerri Mollica and Vicky Jacobs. Jim attended Hower Vocational School. After school he served his country by joining the Marine Corps in 1957. He later served an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker with Local 33 and the National Sheet Metal Workers union. He followed his dream to learn how to fly and became a flight instructor and was an on demand charter pilot in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked at Air Enterprises in Akron, Ohio as a corporate pilot.
In 1954, he learned to ride a motorcycle which was his favorite past time. He especially loved riding with his buddies Ozzie, Willie, Ron, and Eddie aka "Grey Beard Gang" as well as the Gold Wing Riders Association.
Jim was a very caring individual. He volunteered for Hospice Portage County and Akron General Hospital Chaplain service.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 1-2 followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
