James W. Collier
James W. Collier, 86, passed away on February 14, 2009. James served during WWII with the US Navy and was a life member of Firestone VFW. He worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years as a letter carrier and retired from First Merit after 15 years of service where he worked as a courier. James was a member of Lakemore United Methodist Church. He volunteered for 46 years with the Soapbox Derby and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. James was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed playing golf and the New York Yankees. Preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Betty Collier; sister Betty; brother Tom; and granddaughter Emily. Survivors include his beloved wife Helen, of 61 1/2 years; sons David (Sandy), Bill, and Robert (Cathy); brother Albert (Rosalie); 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to James' extended family at Altercare of Hartville for their loving care and support. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place on Friday, February 27, at 1 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. at Lakemore United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakemore United Methodist Church, 1536 Flickinger Rd. Akron, OH 44312.
