Janet C. Appleton, 84, passed away December 27, 2009 after a short illness. She retired from 1st National Bank after working in the bookkeeping department. Janet kept herself busy with cooking and sewing. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lawrence Appleton. She is survived by her daughter, Karen A. (Robert) White; grandson, Trevor Lawrence White; sister, Jean Opatrny of Dana Point, CA; and nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 31, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Fleary Spurlock officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
