Janet Lynn (Tharpe) Jones, 71, passed away suddenly on Mon, 12 Sep 2022, in Akron, OH. Jan was born 22 Oct 1950 in Richwood, WV, the daughter of William and Lillian E (Mullens) Tharpe. She then grew up on a farm above Richwood on Hinkle Mountain. Jan moved to Akron in 1968 to live with an uncle and met her husband there at The Salvation Army during a music lesson. She married her husband Charles J Jones on 26 Apr 1969 in Akron, OH.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lil Tharpe, brother Timothy W Thorpe, and nephew Kevin W Thorpe. She is survived by husband Charles J Jones of Akron; one daughter, Melinda L Jones-Tharpe of Akron; one son, Brian D Jones of Wilmington, NC; two step-daughters, Deborah S (Jones) Perkins-Morris (Jeff) of Green, and Tina M (Jones) Casalinova (Dave) of Canal Fulton; one brother Randall W Thorpe (Darla) of Akron; one niece, Kathryn I Thorpe of Akron; ten grandchildren, Taylor J Tharpe, Lisa M Langham-Horak (Jesus), Joseph A Langham-Horak (Olivia), Jamie C Jones, Brian M Jones (Destiny), Jared M Palmer (Jessamyn), Jacob J Palmer (Marianna), Mario T Perkins (Sully), David J Casalinova, and Angela M Casalinova; eight great-grandchildren, Lillian F Tharpe, Isabella A Linear-Langham, Eduardo M Linear-Langham, James M Jones, Ava J Palmer, Jordyn M Palmer, Matthew J Palmer, and Luke T Perkins; and extended family Christine and Kady Morris.
Jan was the proprietor of 'Jan Jones! Interior Finishes' for 30+ years, since retired; a painter and wallpaper hanger specializing in artistic home improvement. She was a long-time teacher, leader, volunteer, and mentor at both Maranatha Bible Church and The Salvation Army Citadel Corps. Jan's home-hobbies were baking, gardening, and especially sewing, for which she was well known. Her deserts were a big hit at every function, her yard is bursting with flowers, and she spent much of her time in her third-floor sewing room called 'The Tower'.
Jan was cheerful, humble, and generous, and will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Oct 8, 2022, at The Salvation Army Citadel Corps, 190 S Maple Street, Akron, Ohio from 3pm-6pm. All are welcome to come and reminisce about their time spent with Jan.
