Janet Adelle Michl (nee Yukman) passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023 knowing that she was loved. She was born on September 17, 1932 in Cleveland to Frank and Adelle Yukman (nee Kosmos). The family moved to Cuyahoga Falls where she and her brother, Frank, embraced the wry sense of humor and realistic outlook on life passed down from her immigrant grandparents.
After graduating from St. Vincent High School and a year at Kent State, she worked as a secretary. She and her husband, Richard, settled in Stow and raised their four sons and two daughters. Janet worked for decades as a nurse's aide and housekeeper. She finally retired at the age of 79 after realizing she was older than a lot of the residents. After retiring, she enjoyed spending extra time with family, trips to Las Vegas with Alberta and lunch with "the girls from work." Janet was also an artist and loved drawing and painting, especially holiday cards for the family. She was a nature lover and liked painting birds but stopped after health problems made it harder to catch them and she said the birds didn't really seem to like it anyway.
After her husband died in 1993, she stayed in Stow until moving to Norton in 2020. She loved crocheting blankets for everyone and acting as surgeon to the dog's stuffed animals in need of repair. She enjoyed watching the turtles, ducks and geese around the pond and the occasional fox playing in the yard. Her green thumb made the houseplants look better than ever. She was amazed she made it to her 90th birthday and was so happy to celebrate it surrounded by her family and friends.
She had a strong faith and was at peace knowing she would pass soon and looked forward to being reunited with her family in heaven. Her greatest wish was that her children and grandchildren would continue to love and support each other long after she was gone.
Don't remember me with sadness, don't remember me with tears. Remember me with laughter, we shared throughout the years - like chasing cars down the driveway.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; infant sons, Timothy and Richard; son, Gregory Michl; daughter-in-law, Kathy Michl; son-in-law, Bill Griffiths; grandson, Matthew; her parents and one brother.
She is survived by son, Patrick (Kathy) Michl of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Linda Griffiths of Norton; son, Peter (Tammi) Michl of Lexington, KY; daughter, Susan Butler of Stow; and son, William Michl (Dr. Kim Miller) of Hudson. She was blessed with and loved by her 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; beloved niece and "pen pal," Elizabeth Yukman; sister-in-law, Joann Yukman; as well as many other family members.
Janet chose to be cremated and asked people to plant a lilac bush or feed the birds in honor of her memory. The family thanks everyone that called, visited and made her last days happy. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
