Jasper "Al" T. Shadie 91 was born to the late Henry and Udell Shadie on February 9th, 1933, in Akron, Oh. He was called home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2024.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 2nd, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where services will be held at 2:00pm with Pastor Stacey Jenkins officiating.
Al's service will be livestreamed starting at 2pm.

He attended Garfield High School where he was the first black student to play baseball for the team. Before finishing high school, Al was drafted into the military, where he served in the Navy during the Korean War. An honorable discharge brought him back home to Akron, where he finished school and became gainfully employed at Firestone Tire and Rubber. He continued to work there his entire career, before retiring after 30 years.
He married Louise Clark on September 15, 1956, unto their union were born son, Keith Shadie; daughters, Wanda Shadie, and Shawnda Shadie.
He had a smile that would light up any room. Al cherished his family and friends, he especially adored his great grandchildren. He was very loving and supportive, and made everyone feel like they were his favorite. Al was a helper and a problem solver, always willing to help anyone in need. His passion for children compelled him to donate for many charities, his favorite being Saint Jude Children's Hospital Research.
He loved to share his special memories of growing up with his twin brother Jacob and older brother George, popularly known as "The Shadie Brothers".
Al was an avid bowler and an exceptional baseball player. He loved sports, enjoyed playing cards with family, & traveling. His favorite way to celebrate was a good family dinner… as long as sweet potatoes were on the menu, that was his favorite dish, no matter the main course!
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise Shadie; brothers Jacob Shadie and George Shadie; sister-in-law Lorraine Clark.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Wanda Shadie and Shawnda Shadie; son, Keith Shadie; grandsons, Jermaine (Ashie) Shadie, DaRon (Carisa) Dear, Karl Beecher and Robert (Coriana) Williams Jr.; granddaughters Keisha Shadie, Makaleah Bennett, Jasmyn Williams and Jada Williams; 17 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Janice Shadie; special family member, Tammy Lampley; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly.
