Jean L. Rittenour, born January 9, 1936, fell asleep peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones on February 26, 2011. Mom moved to Ohio from West Virginia as a child. She enjoyed spending time with her large family, going to bingo, sewing and playing cards. Grandma was a wise, loving, and generous woman who never met a stranger. Jean retired from Giant Eagle after many years of service. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Virginia Smith; husband, Charles; son, Charles, Jr.; brother, Raymie Smith; and grandson, Jason. Jean is survived by her children, James Burns, Kathy (Gary) Dempsey, Karen (David) Smith, Arthur "Butch", Terrill, Kenneth, and Daniel Rittenour; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice Aber, Pauline Fiume, and Nadine Kight; and many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 1, from 5 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will be held Wednesday, March 2, at 11 am with Pastor Sherman Bailey officiating. Burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
